Yesterday was our bi-annual trip to the dentist with the kiddos. Always eventful, this time around I decided we would have all six go on the same day to cut down on gas and travel. That was the plan at least.
For us, dental trips start with getting B3 his antibiotic. (Since it's his aortic valve that is defective we have to be careful he doesn't get an infection) This is always fun because from what we know, liquid amoxicillian has red 40 in it. B3 is allergic to red 40, it increases his heart rate and he is like a high bounce ball bouncing off the walls continually for hours (last time he had it, it took 12 hours before he passed out). So we have to get the capsule to break open and give to him with applesauce. He's good about it and takes it more or less without a problem.
So... our appointment was suppose to be at 10:30 yesterday, the receptionist called about 8:30 and told us we could go ahead and come in since they had some cancellations. I real quick gave B3 his meds and
we loaded up, I was thanking God that we had already gotten up, eaten and were dressed.
We get there and the first two to go back are B2 & B3. After about 20 minutes they come out and the hygienist gives their report. B3 has to wiggle his wiggles out, it's his front two bottom teeth. Also, they couldn't do the fluoride treatment because the ones they have contain red 40. B2 has two wiggles on top that have to wiggle out plus to make room for the permanent teeth on bottom he will have to return next week to pull the bottom two.
Next two to go back are G2 & B1. B1 has stubborn wiggles and will have to come back, he is very jumpy so he will have to do sedation, at that time they will also clean his teeth. G2 has made much improvements in her dental hygiene so we can proceed to see if our insurance will cover braces.
Finally G1 & G3 get their teeth taken care of. Both were told they have gorgeous teeth and for the most part they were in good shape,
None of the kids had cavities. (Which I am so proud of!)
A funny that happened while G2 and B1 were in the back...
B1 has always been skidish with any kind of doctor or dentist. We think it comes from being sick as an infant, but aren't sure. Anyhow, after a few minutes we hear the dentist hooping and hollering and knowing he encourages the kids, I was thinking maybe B1 let him clean his teeth and there was a little excessive celebration. The kids that were in the waiting room with me looked at me and laughed. Come to find out, the dentist had the World Cup on and the United States had just gotten their first goal. That is what they were celebrating. I got tickled because I really had no clue.
We go back to the dentist for G2, B1 and B2 next week. B3 may have to go too, depending if the wiggles wiggle out or not. Ultimately the kids enjoyed going to the dentist, everybody had good reports we just have to wiggle wiggle wiggle!
